COURSE DESCRIPTION

A Integrated course of graduate of B.Sc + Diploma in in Medical Laboratory Technology is an all-rounder as far as technologies in a medical laboratory is concerned. The course envisages to build in an overall expertise in the student, of performing medical laboratory tests, whether its routine or special tests. The students would be capable of performing a range of tests such as those related to phlebotomy, clinical biochemistry, haematology, serology, cytogenetics, etc., Besides, skills related to lab management and ethics, biomedical waste disposal, personality development, effective communication skills, etc., would also be developed in them. The course creates the grounds for enhancing vertical growth opportunities for the Medical Laboratory Technician graduate. The course aims to impart students with knowledge regarding Anatomy, so that they understand the investigative aspect adequately to equip themselves to perform laboratory procedures. It will not only help the students to perform investigative procedures more accurately but also help them to perform better in a Pathology Lab.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

• Perform routine clinical laboratory procedures within acceptable quality control parameters in Hematology, Chemistry, Immunohematology, and Microbiology under the general supervision of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Pathologist.
• Demonstrate technical skills, social behavior, and professional awareness incumbent upon a laboratory technician.
• Apply systematized problem solving techniques to identify and correct procedural errors, identify instrument malfunctions and seek proper supervisory assistance, and verify the accuracy of laboratory results obtained.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, utilizing appropriate quality control and safety procedures.
• Recognize and participate in activities which will provide current knowledge and upgrading of skills in laboratory medicine.
  

  ELEGIBILITY OF ADMISSION

  The eligibility for admission to B.Sc. + Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology shall be 12th in Science Stream.

  CAREER PROSPECTS

  Depending upon one’s training and qualification, the B.Sc + Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology professionals may work as technologists or technicians at medical laboratories. The student may start off by working as a technician. Some of the common job profiles available in front of graduates include – Lab Technician, Lab Technologist, Lab Supervisor and Lab Manager.
